We’ve been involved in the calibration and resale of used test equipment for 9 years! We’ve focused on recruiting senior calibration and repair engineers, and have two regional labs in Oregon and Florida, in addition to our head quarters in NJ. We have experts in both RF and Optical / Photonic test equipment. Our capability has brought international repair business to the USA and we’ve sent engineers to calibrate equipment in Asia & Europe!

Our intimate knowledge of the current test equipment market allows us to efficiently and accurately prepare non-functioning units for resale. We often appraise equipment for free as a value added service in order to determine the most viable repair strategy, as it can be more economical to replace a unit.

Additionally, we provision and source test equipment rentals and replacement test equipment and furnish laboratory space for startups.

Custom-Cal Gains ISO 9000 Certification in RF & Optical Repair

Custom-Cal has successfully completed ISO 9000 registration. ISO 9000?consists of a family of standards?that apply to quality management systems. In order to be certified, there are requirements and standards that have been met by the company. ?Some of the requirements include: monitoring processes to ensure they are effective, having a?set of procedures that covers all key processes in the company and?facilitating continual improvement. ?For Custom-Cal, the ISO 9000 certification specifically applies to calibration and repair of Test and Measurement equipment (primarily RF and optical units), on-site calibration services and new & used equipment sales.

Nicole has been keeping track of a Sunset OCx sent in for repair. She has encountered various issues and ideas, but let’s hear what she has to say:

In the beginning, I wasn’t very familiar with this type of handheld optical network test device, so my first task was learning and gaining more understanding. I went to the Sunrise Telecom website to see what the manufacturer could tell me.
(http://www.sunrisetelecom.com/products/sunset_ocx.php) At the website here, I learned how this analyzer is used for various applications involving installing, testing, and maintaining SONET networks. Then I gathered manuals and any other literature that I could find, and began a simultaneously theoretical and hands-on approach to figuring out this unit. During my research, Randy and Joel assisted with hints, ideas, and detailed explanations. They showed me how to use the optical video scope in the lab to view the trasmitting and receiving lenses of the unit. They were filthy! So then I learned how to properly clean an optical lens using a special?thin optical cleaning swab lightly dipped in alcohol, followed by a blast of pressurized air. I had to do this a few times but now that single black circle is surrounded by pristine white.
Now today we received three portable video fiber scopes made by Noyes Fiber Systems. I tested these to make sure that they were all functional and complete sets. Because of what I learned during my Sunset project, I easily figured out how to set up and use these devices. Proud to say they all work great and are ready to hit the road at a moment’s notice.
