   AEROFLEX-IFR FM/AM-1200S (1200S)   Description / Specification:
AEROFLEX-IFR FM/AM-1200S Communications Service Monitor

The IFR FM/AM-1200S is a processor controlled, digitally synthesized FM/AM /SSB receiver and generator, with an integral oscilloscope / spectrum analyzer. The receiver is a triple con version superheterodyne receiver capable of receiving Signals from 250 kHz to 999.9999 MHz. The signal generator is capable of producing modulated or unmodulated RF signals from 250 kHz to 999.9999 MHz. A function generator will produce six functions with ranges from 10 Hz up to 10 kHz and one function up to 30 kHz. A duplex generator can produce a signal up to ±49.99 MHz from the received frequency. The oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer on the IFR FM/AM-1200S utilize a common CRT. Bandwidth of the oscilloscope is DC to 1 MHz and the dynamic range of the spectrum analyzer on the FM/AM-1200S is from -30 dBm to -100 dBm. Specification. RF Signal Generator Frequency Range: 250 kHz to 999.9999 MHz in 100 Hz increments. Frequency Accuracy: ±5 Hz + Master Oscillator. Residual FM: < 100 Hz RMS (300 Hz to 3 kHz bandwidth). Harmonics: 2nd Harmonic <= - 30 dBc, 3rd Harmonic <= -45 dBc. RF Output Power: -121 dBm to -20 dBm (10 dB steps with 11 dB range vernier) into 50 Ohms. RF Output Accuracy: ±2.5 dB. Duplex Generator Frequency Range: ±49.99 MHz from receive frequency in 10 kHz steps. Frequency Resolution: 2.5 kHz.

Decibel (dB)
A unit of measurement of optical power which indicates relative power. A -10 dB means a reduction in power by 10 times, -20 dB means another 10 times or 100 times overall, -30 means another 10 times or 1000 times overall and so on.

PDH
Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH) is a transmission system for voice communication using plesiochronous synchronisation. The transmitter adds dummy information bits to allow multiple channels to be bit interleaved. The receiver discards these bits once the signals have been demultiplexed. PDH combines multiple 2 Mb/s (E1) channels in Europe and 1.544 Mb/s (DS1) channels in the US and Japan.

Spectral Width
Spectral Width is the wavelength interval over which the magnitude of all spectral components is equal to or greater than a specified fraction of the magnitude of the component having the maximum value. In optical communications applications, the usual method of specifying spectral width is the full width at half maximum. This is the same convention used in bandwidth, defined as the frequency range where power drops by less than half (at most -3 dB).
