AEROFLEX-IFR 2944B Wireless Communications Service Monitor

The Aeroflex IFR 2944B Wireless Communications Service Monitor comes with a full performance spectrum analyzer. The standard TCXO allows results to be made reliably within a minute of switch on. Where even better stability is required, an optional OCXO is available. Stored settings may be recalled from internal memory allowing fast and straightforward setup. The spectrum analyzer provides spans from 100 Hz per division to full span and has a fully adjustable reference level. With the tracking generator provided as standard, duplexers and filters can be aligned quickly and easily. An offset facility provides testing of equipment with frequency translation. The Aeroflex 2944B will measure the power of low level signals such as those encountered when monitoring off-air signals or those found when probing a circuit. 150 W measurement is provided without the need for external attenuators, so high power base stations can be measured directly. Measurement accuracy of better than 10% is guaranteed all the way down to 5 mW on the N-Type connector. The signal generator provides coverage from 400 kHz to 1.05 GHz with +5 dBm output (+7 dBm overrange) and fast switching speed. Level accuracy is ±2 dB at all levels above -127 dBm. Full duplex operation is provided by the 2944B allowing testing of duplex radios as well as simultaneous testing of repeater transmit and receive paths. Full featured audio analysis tools include; audio bar charts, audio voltmeter, audio S/N meter, audio distortion meter and audio frequency meter. The oscilloscope can either be combined with the measurement screen in the Tx, Rx or AF test modes or ‘zoomed’ to a full screen display. Options. OPT1 - 600 ohm Matching Unit. Decibel (dB)
A unit of measurement of optical power which indicates relative power. A -10 dB means a reduction in power by 10 times, -20 dB means another 10 times or 100 times overall, -30 means another 10 times or 1000 times overall and so on.

PDH
Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH) is a transmission system for voice communication using plesiochronous synchronisation. The transmitter adds dummy information bits to allow multiple channels to be bit interleaved. The receiver discards these bits once the signals have been demultiplexed. PDH combines multiple 2 Mb/s (E1) channels in Europe and 1.544 Mb/s (DS1) channels in the US and Japan.

Spectral Width
Spectral Width is the wavelength interval over which the magnitude of all spectral components is equal to or greater than a specified fraction of the magnitude of the component having the maximum value. In optical communications applications, the usual method of specifying spectral width is the full width at half maximum. This is the same convention used in bandwidth, defined as the frequency range where power drops by less than half (at most -3 dB).
