   ACTERNA OLP-15B   Description / Specification:
ACTERNA OLP-15B 800 to 1700 nm Handheld Optical Power Meter

The Acterna OLP-15B Optical Power Meter is especially suitable for applications involving the installation, maintenance or repair of fiber optics networks, as they are both compact and easy to use. It can be used to make power and loss measurements in the wavelength range from 800 to 1700 nm. The OLP-15B is specially suited to measuring high power levels, such as those found in CATV systems, optical amplifiers (e.g. EDFA) and high-power lasers. The upper display limit for the OLP-15B is +20 dBm. The lower limit of below -60 dBm means that the instruments are suitable for practically any application. The OLP-15B can store up to 150 sets of data and output these to a PC or printer for documentation via the built-in RS 232 interface. Specifications. Wavelength range: 800 to 1700nm. Photodiode: Germanium. Fiber type: 9/125 to 100/140 um. Standard wavelengths, switchable: 780, 850, 1300, 1310, 1550 nm. Display range: -70 to +11 dBm. Max. permitted level: +20 dBm. Intrinsic error: ± 0.13 dB (corresponds to ±3%). Overall measurement uncertainty for the level range -60 to +18 dBm: + 0.25dB +0.8 nW (850 nm), ±0.20 dB ±2 nW (1300,1310 nm), ±0.40 dB ±2 nW (1550 nm). Wavelength detection: automatic switching and display of nominal wavelength. Data memory: 1000 results. Results data/Remote control: RS 232 interface. Modulation detection: 270 Hz, 330 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz. Result display: LCD, 4-digit. Resolution: 0.01 dB/0.001 uW.

*This is a Web introductory price for one calibration of the ACTERNA OLP-15B. Price does not in most cases include measurement performance data. Pricing does include NIST traceable calibration and issue of a calibration certificate and calibration label. Pricing may vary slightly due to volume and location of laboratory supporting calibration. Volume pricing may apply. On-site fees may apply depending on logistics, location and volume of work to be completed during the visit.

Coherence Length
Average distance over which superimposed waves lose their phase relationships

Linewidth
Linewidth is the width of a spectral line in terms of wavelength, wave number and frequency.

Power Flatness Versus Wavelength
When changing the wavelength at constant power setting and recording the differences between actual and displayed power levels, the power flatness is ± half the span (in dB) between the maximum and the minimum of the measured power levels.

Spectral Width
Spectral Width is the wavelength interval over which the magnitude of all spectral components is equal to or greater than a specified fraction of the magnitude of the component having the maximum value. In optical communications applications, the usual method of specifying spectral width is the full width at half maximum. This is the same convention used in bandwidth, defined as the frequency range where power drops by less than half (at most -3 dB).

Telecom Bands
Optical fiber communications typically operate in a wavelength region corresponding to one of the following Bands. O Band (original): 1260–1360 nm. E Band (extended): 1360–1460 nm. S Band (short wavelengths): 1460–1530 nm. C Band (conventional): 1530–1565 nm. L Band (long wavelengths): 1565–1625 nm. U Band (ultralong wavelengths): 1625–1675 nm
