   ACTERNA OLP-16B   Description / Specification:
ACTERNA OLP-16B 800 to 1700 nm Handheld Optical Power Meter

The Acterna OLP-16B Optical Power Meter is especially suitable for applications involving the installation, maintenance or repair of fiber optics networks, as they are both compact and easy to use. It can be used to make power and loss measurements in the wavelength range from 800 to 1700 nm. The OLP-16B is a no-compromise instrument with high accuracy down to very low levels, The display range is from -80 to +15 dBm with minimal measurement uncertainty even at very low levels. This and other characteristics make the instrument suitable for use both in the field and in the laboratory. The InGaAs photodiode in the OLP-16B is most suitable for use in the second and third optical windows at 1310 and 1550 nm.The OLP-16B can store up to 150 sets of data and output these to a PC or printer for documentation via the built-in RS 232 interface. Specifications. Wavelength range: 800 to 1700nm. Photodiode: InGaAs. Fiber type: 9/125 to 500/125 um. Standard wavelengths, switchable: 850,1300, 1310, 1550, 1625 nm. Display range: -80 to +15 dBm. Max. permitted level: +15 dBm. Intrinsic error: ± 0.13 dB (corresponds to ±3%). Overall measurement uncertainty for the level range -70 to +11 dBm: + 0.3 dB ±0.15 nW (850 nm), ±0.2 dB ±0.02 nW (1300,1310 nm), ±0.2 dB ±0.02 nW (1550 nm). Wavelength detection: automatic switching and display of nominal wavelength. Data memory: 1000 results. Results data/Remote control: RS 232 interface. Modulation detection: 270 Hz, 330 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz. Result display: LCD, 4-digit. Resolution: 0.01 dB/0.001 uW.

*This is a Web introductory price for one calibration of the ACTERNA OLP-16B. Price does not in most cases include measurement performance data. Pricing does include NIST traceable calibration and issue of a calibration certificate and calibration label. Pricing may vary slightly due to volume and location of laboratory supporting calibration. Volume pricing may apply. On-site fees may apply depending on logistics, location and volume of work to be completed during the visit.

Chromatic Dispersion
Chromatic Dispersion is a broadening of the input signal as it travels down the length of the fiber. Chromatic Dispersion results from a variation in propagation delay with wavelength, and is affected by fiber materials and dimensions.

Detector
A Detector is a signal conversion device that converts power from one form to another, such as from optical power to electrical power

Jitter
Jitter in technical terms is the deviation in or displacement of some aspect of the pulses in a high-frequency digital signal. Jitter is the time variation of a periodic signal in electronics and telecommunications, often in relation to a reference clock source. Jitter may be observed in characteristics such as the frequency of successive pulses, the signal amplitude, or phase of periodic signals. Jitter is a significant, and usually undesired, factor in the design of almost all communications links (e.g., USB, PCI-e, SATA, OC-48). In clock recovery applications it is called timing jitter.

Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD)
Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is a form of modal dispersion where two different polarizations of light in a waveguide, which normally travel at the same speed, travel at different speeds due to random imperfections and asymmetries, causing random spreading of optical pulses. It is he difference between the maximum and minimum values of loss typically measured in ps/km^1/2.
