ROHDE & SCHWARZ FSVR40 (1311.0006.40)   Description / Specification:   Spec Sheet
ROHDE & SCHWARZ FSVR40 40 GHz Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer

The R&S FSVR40 40 GHz Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer combines a full-featured signal and spectrum analyzer with a real-time spectrum analyzer. In real-time mode, the R&S FSVR40 measures the signal spectrum with a bandwidth of up to 40 MHz around the set center frequency. The data for calculating and displaying the spectrum is recorded without gaps. In order to provide spectrum measurements that are true to the original, especially in the case of pulsed signals, the FSVR40 overlaps the data segments for transformation into the frequency domain by at least 80%. Specifications. Frequency range: 10 Hz to 40 GHz. Real-time RF bandwidth: 100 Hz to 40 MHz. A/D converter: 128 Msample/s, 16 bit. Measurement points per trace: 801. Marker resolution: 1 Hz. Resolution bandwidths: 1 Hz to 10 MHz (standard filter), 1 Hz to 10 MHz, 20 MHz, 40 MHz (standard filter, ZERO SPAN), 1 Hz to 300 kHz (FFT sweep), 100 Hz to 5 MHz (channel filter). Displayed average noise level 1 GHz: –152 dBm (1 Hz). Display range: displayed noise floor up to +30 dBm. CW RF power RF attenuation 0 dB RF preamplifier = off: 20 dBm (= 0.1 W). Options. FSV-B3, Audio Demodulator. FSV-B4, OCXO Reference Frequency. FSV-B5, Additional Interfaces, IF out, video out, AUX port, trigger out, 2 × USB. FSV-B17, Digital Baseband Interface. FSVR-B18, Solid State Drive (removable hard drive). FSVR-B19, Spare Hard Drive (removable hard drive). FSV-B21, LO/IF Ports for External Mixers. FSV-B24, RF Preamplifier. FSV-B25, Electronic Attenuator, 1 dB steps.

Averaging
Averaging is a mathematical process to reduce the variation in a measurement by summing the data points from multiple measurements and dividing by the number of points summed.

Jitter
Jitter in technical terms is the deviation in or displacement of some aspect of the pulses in a high-frequency digital signal. Jitter is the time variation of a periodic signal in electronics and telecommunications, often in relation to a reference clock source. Jitter may be observed in characteristics such as the frequency of successive pulses, the signal amplitude, or phase of periodic signals. Jitter is a significant, and usually undesired, factor in the design of almost all communications links (e.g., USB, PCI-e, SATA, OC-48). In clock recovery applications it is called timing jitter.

Pulse Power
Pulse Power, the energy transfer rate is averaged over the pulse width. Pulse width is considered to be the time between the 50 percent risetime/falltime amplitude points. Pulse power averages out any aberrations in the pulse envelope such as overshoot or ringing.
