The Agilent J7231B omniBER is a communication performance analyzer that provides testing of SONET/SDH, DSn/PDH, ethernet MAC, LAPS, GFP, LCAS, and packet over SONET/SDH (POS) formats. Also included are measurements of optical power, line frequency, pointer measurements, service disruption, and virtual concatenation of differential delay measurement. Additional features include SONET/SDH virtual concatenation, contiguous concatenations enhancement for testing the breadth of GR-253/G.707, mixed mapping, jitter measurements, and an encapsulation analyzer. The Agilent J7231B can uses multiple line rates including OTU2, OC-1/3/12/48/192, STM-0/1/4/16/64 (framed), and 10.71/9.95/2.48 Gb/s, 622/155/52 Mb/s (unframed). Available optical wavelengths depend on option installed. With option 104, only a single 1310 nm source is included. Option 106 includes both a 1310 and 1550 nm source for line rates under or equal to 2.5 Gb/s. For line rates at 10 Gb/s, option 108 provides a 1550 nm source. Alternatively, option 112 provides a 1550 nm source at transfer rates of 10/10.71 Gb/s. Available optical connectors include FC/PC, SC, and ST. SONET/SDH electrical line rates include STS-1 and STS-3. Electrical SONET/SDH uses a BNC connection (75 ohm, unbalanced). PDH/DSn electrical line rates include DS1, DS3, as well as 2/8/34/140 Mb/s. PDH/DSn interface with Bantam, BNC, and 3-pin Seimens. The J7231B provides full ITU-T G.7042 emulation for LCAS testing. Manual control of protocol is available for stress testing, as well as errorless addition and removal of containers. Additionaly, LCAS protocol trace enables faster debug times. The J7231B is able to generate and recieve LAPS encapsulated ethernet. Testing of this format includes error generation with the ability to inject undersized frames and invalid control sequence errors and additionaly, the ability to inject and to detect erroneous frame alarms and link loss. User programmable header fields allow other HDLC-based encapsulations such as cisco HDLC to be generated and recieved. The DSn/PDH test capability allows comprehensive testing of DSn/PDH signals and networks with DS1(1.5 Mb/s), DS3 (45 Mb/s), 2 Mb/s, 8 Mb/s, 34 Mb/s and 140 Mb/s interfaces. Signals can be unframed, framed, or structured (mux/demux), and tested with error and alarm generation and detection. Also provided are the abilities to do drop-insert of DSn/PDH to/from SONET/SDH, drop-insert of DS1/2Mb/s to/from DSn/PDH, DS1 loop codes and DS3 FEAC messages, PDH spare bits control and monitoring, as well as G.826, G.828, G.821, M.2101, M.2101.1, M.2110, and M.2120 performance analysis. Additional measurements include optical power, line frequency, pointer, service disruption, and virtual concatenation differential delay. Options. Opt 004: Mainframe – Side mounted connectors. Opt 005: Mainframe – Rear mounted connectors. Opt 104: 52-2488 Mb/s multi-rate optics 1310 nm. Opt 105: 52-2488 Mb/s multi-rate optics 1550 nm. Opt 106: 52-2488 Mb/s multi-rate optics 1310/1550 nm. Opt 108: 10 Gb/s optics 1550 nm. Opt 112: ITU-T G.709 OTU-2 testing at 10.71 Gb/s.
