Keysight (Agilent) E8241A 20 GHz PSG-L CW Signal Generator

The Agilent E8241A PSG-L 20 GHz CW Signal Generator offers accurate characterization of products and eliminates the need of an external amplifier for testing high power devices. The E8241A provides 20 dBm at 20 GHz (option 1EA) reducing overall equipment and test costs. The superior level accuracy of the E8241A (+/- 0.7 dB) reduces test uncertainties and improves production throughput. Standard products have phase noise performance of -85 dBc/Hz at 1khz offset and -110 dBc/Hz at 20 kHz offset and a 10 GHz carrier. The E8241A provides improved performance with option UNJ of -98 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset and -110 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset and a 10 GHz carrier. Specifications. Frequency Range: 250 kHz to 20 GHz. Frequency Resolution: 0.01 Hz. Frequency Accuracy: Calibration = aging rate ± temperature effects ± line voltage effects. Switching speed (typical) Analog modulation: < 15 ms. Phase offset: Adjustable in nominal 0.1° increments. Internal timebase reference oscillator Aging rate: < ±1 x 10–7/year or < ±4.5 x 10–9/day after 45 days. External reference frequency: 1, 2, 2.5, 5, 10 MHz (within 1 ppm). Reference output Frequency: 10 MHz. Reference output Amplitude: > +4 dBm typical into 50 ohm load. Output Power: –20 to +13 dBm (250 kHz to 20 GHz). Interfaces: GPIB (IEEE-488.2,1987) with listen and talk, RS-232, and 10-base T-LAN interface. Options. -1E1, Adds output step attenuator for extended range to –135 dBm. -1EA, High RF output power +20 dBm at 20 GHz, +14 dBm at 40 GHz. -1ED, Type-N RF output connector (20 GHz only). -UNJ, Improved close-in phase noise.

Crest Factor
Crest factor or peak-to-average ratio (PAR) is a measurement of a waveform, calculated from the peak amplitude of the waveform divided by the RMS value of the waveform

Linearity
Linearity is the relative difference between the displayed power ratio, Dx/D0, and the actual (true) power ratio Px/P0 caused by changing the displayed power level from the reference level, D0, to an arbitrary displayed level, Dx.

Phase Noise
Phase noise is the frequency domain representation of rapid, short-term, random fluctuations in the phase of a waveform, caused by time domain instabilities. Phase noise (L(f)) is typically expressed in units of dBc/Hz, representing the noise power relative to the carrier contained in a 1 Hz bandwidth centered at a certain offsets from the carrier.

Sensitivity
Sensitivity is the minimum magnitude of input signal required to produce a specified output signal having a specified signal-to-noise ratio, or other specified criteria.
