Keysight (Agilent) 37721A   Description / Specification:
Keysight (Agilent) 37721A Digital Transmission Analyzer

The HP 37721A digital transmission analyzer is a portable, lightweight, rugged test set providing bit, code, and FAS error testing at the European CEPT rates of 704 kb/s, 2, 8, 34, and 140 Mb/s. It measures error performance to CCITT Recommendation 0.821, with interfaces to 0.703. A key feature of the HP 37721A is its ease of use: the autosetup facility automatically configures the test set to the incoming data; nine stored setups ensure that required test parameters are instantly available; graphic display of res ults shows error counts, error seconds, and alarms at a glance; and a range of logging options to an internal or external printer provides customized hard-copy proof of results. Option 001 provides remote control via RS-232 and HP-IB interfaces and adds the ability to log results to an HPThinklet. Multiple outputs in Option 002 enable simultaneous loading of four channels of a multiplexer or digital radio with only one test set. With Option 003, up to 100 ppm of frequency offset is provided at all rates to evaluate clock-recovery circuits. Option 004 provides binary TTL/ECL interfaces with external clock input for telecom and general purpose applications. Option 005 fully checks frame signals in-service at 140, 34, 8, and 2 Mb/s.

Pricing does include NIST traceable calibration and issue of a calibration certificate and calibration label. Pricing may vary slightly due to volume and location of laboratory supporting calibration. Volume pricing may apply. On-site fees may apply depending on logistics, location and volume of work to be completed during the visit.

Data Rate
Data Rate is the maximum number of bits of information which can be transmitted per second, as in a data transmission link. Typically expressed as megabits per second (Mbps).

Optical Signal-to-noise Ratio (OSNR)
Optical Signal-to-noise ratio is the ratio between the signal power and the noise power in a given bandwidth. Most commonly a reference bandwidth of 0.1 nm is used. This bandwidth is independent from the modulation format, the frequency and the receiver. For instance a OSNR of 20dB/0.1nm could be given, even the signal of 40 GBit DPSK would not fit in this bandwidth. OSNR is measured with a Optical Spectrum Analyzer. It is generally measured at the wavelength of interest.

SONET
Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET) is a fiber-optic transmission system for high-speed digital traffic. Employed by telephone companies and common carriers, speeds range from 51 Mbps to 40 Gbps. SONET is an intelligent system that provides advanced network management and a standard optical interface. Specified in the Broadband ISDN (B-ISDN) standard, SONET backbones are widely used to aggregate T1 and T3 lines. The European counterpart to SONET is the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy, and the term "SONET/SDH" is widely used when referring to SONET
