Keysight (Agilent) 3785A Jitter Generator and Receiver

The HP 3785A Jitter Generator and Receiver is a dedicated jitter test set for evaluating the performance of digital transmission equipment in the CEPT digital hierarchy. There are interfaces for 2,8, and 34 Mb/s operation. Results logging, remote monitoring applications, and automated production testing are facilitated with full HP-IB capability. The jitter generator can modulate the internal crystal clock or an externally applied clock to generate a jittered test signal at one of the interface bit rates. For jitter tolerance testing, the amplitude and frequency of the applied jitter can be set manually, or it can be automatically swept, transient-free, through a jitter tolerance mask programmed into the instrument. Jitter can be measured on data signals either out-of-service or in-service. A built-in amplifier facilitates measurements at protected monitor points. Measurements can also be made on the clock input. The reference clock for jitter measurements can be internally derived from received data or clock, or it can be supplied externally. Unfiltered broadband or a choice of filtering is provided for selective band-limited jitter measurements. A demodulated jitter output is available, for applications such as spectrum analysis.

*This is a Web introductory price for one calibration of the Keysight (Agilent) 3785A. Price does not in most cases include measurement performance data. Pricing does include NIST traceable calibration and issue of a calibration certificate and calibration label. Pricing may vary slightly due to volume and location of laboratory supporting calibration. Volume pricing may apply. On-site fees may apply depending on logistics, location and volume of work to be completed during the visit.

Data Rate
Data Rate is the maximum number of bits of information which can be transmitted per second, as in a data transmission link. Typically expressed as megabits per second (Mbps).

Optical Signal-to-noise Ratio (OSNR)
Optical Signal-to-noise ratio is the ratio between the signal power and the noise power in a given bandwidth. Most commonly a reference bandwidth of 0.1 nm is used. This bandwidth is independent from the modulation format, the frequency and the receiver. For instance a OSNR of 20dB/0.1nm could be given, even the signal of 40 GBit DPSK would not fit in this bandwidth. OSNR is measured with a Optical Spectrum Analyzer. It is generally measured at the wavelength of interest.

SONET
Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET) is a fiber-optic transmission system for high-speed digital traffic. Employed by telephone companies and common carriers, speeds range from 51 Mbps to 40 Gbps. SONET is an intelligent system that provides advanced network management and a standard optical interface. Specified in the Broadband ISDN (B-ISDN) standard, SONET backbones are widely used to aggregate T1 and T3 lines. The European counterpart to SONET is the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy, and the term "SONET/SDH" is widely used when referring to SONET
