Keysight (Agilent) 5316A Universal Counter

The HP 5316A is a Universal Counter, measuring signals over a range of DC to 100 MHz. The HP 5316A offers the measurement capabilities of the HP 5315A in a rack-and-stack metal case, built-in HP-IB capabilities, and front -panel access to Channel A and B trigger levels for easy measurement with a DVM. The 5316A measures frequency, period, time interval, time interval average, time interval holdoff (delay), and Ratio. A Totalize function with manual or external gating is also provided. All measurements except Totalize are displayed in engineering notation with up to eight digits of resolution. In addition, the 5316A may be programmed via the HP -IB. Two independent input channels are provided for time interval measurements. Each input channel has an Attenuator (X1, X20), Trigger Slope selector, Trigger Level/Sensitivity control, three state trigger lamps, and front panel Trigger Level Monitoring jacks. A front panel selectable Low-Pass Filter is provided for Channel A. Channel A and B impedance is 1 M-Ohm/40pF and accuracy is ± Resolution ± (time base error) * frequency. Options. Opt 001: High-stability timebase (TCXO). Opt 003: C Channel, Input range: 50 to 1000 MHz, prescaled by 10. Opt 004: High-stability oven timebase.

Available Gain
Available Gain is the ratio, at a specific frequency, of power available from the output to the power in from the source.

Decibel (dB)
A unit of measurement of power which indicates relative power. A -10 dB means a reduction in power by 10 times, -20 dB means another 10 times or 100 times overall, -30 means another 10 times or 1000 times overall and so on.

Mismatch Uncertainty
Mismatch Uncertainty is caused by re-reflections between one device (the source) and the device that follows it (the load).

Pulse Power
Pulse Power, the energy transfer rate is averaged over the pulse width. Pulse width is considered to be the time between the 50 percent risetime/falltime amplitude points. Pulse power averages out any aberrations in the pulse envelope such as overshoot or ringing.
