Keysight (Agilent) 81534A 1250 to 1600 nm Return Loss Module

The Agilent 81534A Return Loss Module (plug-in) is for use with Agilent 8153A and 8163A/B Lightwave Multimeter, Agilent 8164A/B Lightwave Measurement System, and Agilent 8166A/B Lightwave Multichannel System. Wavelength range : 1250 - 1600 nm. Dynamic Range (Measured with source output power of 0 dBm): 60 dB (60 dB option 001). Relative uncertainty (Mainly due to polarization sensitivity of the coupler. With a mechanically stable setup, this can be reduced typically to <= ±0.05 dB): <= ±0.25 dB (0 to 50 dB) / <= ±0.50 dB (50 to 60 dB), (option 001 <= ±0.25 dB (0 to 55 dB) / <= ±0.50 dB (55 to 65 dB)). Total uncertainty (typical): <= ±0.40 dB (0 to 50 dB) / <= ±0.65 dB (50 to 60 dB), (option 001 <= ±0.40 dB (0 to 55 dB) / <= ±0.65 dB (55 to 65 dB)). Power Sensor Type: (InGaAs). Fiber type: Standard single-mode 9/125 µm. Option 001 (Pigtail Output).

Multimode Fiber
Multimode Fiber has a large core (almost always 62.5 microns - a micron is one one millionth of a meter - but sometimes 50 microns) and is used with LED sources at wavelengths of 850 and 1300 nm for short distance, lower speed networks like LANs. Both multimode and singlemode fiber have an outside diameter of 125 microns - about 5 thousandths of an inch - just slightly larger than a human hair.

Power Repeatability is the random uncertainty in reproducing the power level after changing and re-setting the power level. The power repeatability is ± half the span (in dB) between the highest and lowest actual power.
