Keysight (Agilent) 81553SM 1550 nm Fabry Perot Laser Source Module

The Agilent 81553SM 1550 nm Fabry-Perot Laser Source Module, for use with 8153A Lightwave Multimeter. Source Module Specifications (All specifications are valid for an attenuation setting of 0.0 dB). Type: Fabry-Perot Laser. Central Wavelength (Central wavelength is shown on the display): 1550 ±20 nm. Fiber Type: SM 9/125 um. Spectral Bandwidth: < 4 nm rms. Output Power: >0 dBm. CW Stability Short-term (15 min. T =Constant): ±0.003 dB. CW Stability Long-term (6 hours. T =Constant): ±0.03 dB. Internal Digital Modulation Mode 270 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, selectable. All output signals are pulse-shaped. Duty cycle 50%. Output Attenuation: The output power of the source module can be attenuated from 0 to 6 dB.

Multimode Fiber
Multimode Fiber has a large core (almost always 62.5 microns - a micron is one one millionth of a meter - but sometimes 50 microns) and is used with LED sources at wavelengths of 850 and 1300 nm for short distance, lower speed networks like LANs. Both multimode and singlemode fiber have an outside diameter of 125 microns - about 5 thousandths of an inch - just slightly larger than a human hair.

Power Repeatability is the random uncertainty in reproducing the power level after changing and re-setting the power level. The power repeatability is ± half the span (in dB) between the highest and lowest actual power. Note: - The long-term power repeatability can be obtained by taken the power repeatability and power stability into account.
