Keysight (Agilent) 81642A   Description / Specification:
Keysight (Agilent) 81642A 1510 to 1640 nm High Power Tunable Laser Module

The Agilent 81642A Tunable Laser module (back-loadable) fit into the Agilent 8164A, 8164B Lightwave Measurement System and the Agilent 8166A, 8166B Lightwave Multichannel System. It is all mode-hop free tunable with continuous output power, they qualify for the test of the most critical DWDM components. The Agilent 81642A Tunable Laser module provides the high stimulus power needed to test today’s optical amplifiers. An optional, built-in optical attenuator allows an output power dynamic range of more than 60 dB. Its excellent wavelength precision makes it a multipurpose instrument for all kinds of component test. Specifications. Wavelength Range: 1510 nm to 1640 nm. Wavelength resolution: 0.1 pm, 12.5 MHz at 1550 nm. Tuning Speed: 400 ms/600 ms/2.8 s (typ. For a 1/10/100 nm step). Absolute wavelength accuracy: ±15 pm. Relative wavelength accuracy: ±7 pm, typ. ±3 pm. Wavelength repeatability: ±0.8 pm, typ. ±0.5 pm. Wavelength stability: <= ±1 pm (typ. 24 hrs at constant temp.). Output Max. Power: >= +7 dBm peak typical; Min. Power: -3 dBm, -4.5 dBm(option 003), (-60 dBm in attenuation mode). Option 003: built-in optical attenuator, 60 dB attenuation. Option 021: standard single mode fiber, straight contact output connector. Option 022: standard single mode fiber, angled contact output connector.

Chromatic Dispersion
Chromatic Dispersion is a broadening of the input signal as it travels down the length of the fiber. Chromatic Dispersion results from a variation in propagation delay with wavelength, and is affected by fiber materials and dimensions.

Detector
A Detector is a signal conversion device that converts power from one form to another, such as from optical power to electrical power

Jitter
Jitter in technical terms is the deviation in or displacement of some aspect of the pulses in a high-frequency digital signal. Jitter is the time variation of a periodic signal in electronics and telecommunications, often in relation to a reference clock source. Jitter may be observed in characteristics such as the frequency of successive pulses, the signal amplitude, or phase of periodic signals. Jitter is a significant, and usually undesired, factor in the design of almost all communications links (e.g., USB, PCI-e, SATA, OC-48). In clock recovery applications it is called timing jitter.

Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD)
Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is a form of modal dispersion where two different polarizations of light in a waveguide, which normally travel at the same speed, travel at different speeds due to random imperfections and asymmetries, causing random spreading of optical pulses. It is he difference between the maximum and minimum values of loss typically measured in ps/km^1/2.
