Keysight (Agilent) 86141B 600 to 1700nm Flexible Performance Optical Spectrum Analyzer

The Agilent 86141B is a grating-based Flexible performance Optical Spectrum Analyzer that displays the amplitude of light versus wavelength over a 600 to 1700 nm wavelength range. The OSA uses a patented double-pass monochromator design to simultaneously achieve high sensitivity and dynamic range with a fast sweep time. This is key for characterizing DWDM components and multiple channel systems, especially in a manufacturing environment where speed, accuracy, and throughput are critical. A VGA port allows a PC monitor to be connected directly to the OSA screen, and a parallel (Centronics) interface enables clear color copies of measurement results to be generated. The GPIB interface provides high transfer speeds across the bus which are critical in a high throughput environment. The uncluttered front panel has been designed to compliment the intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) that has been significantly enhanced over the previous generation. Specifications. 50 um optical input, with Filter Mode. Wavelength Range: 600 nm to 1700 nm. Wavelength Reproducibility <= 1 min: ±0.002 nm. Wavelength Span Range: 0.2 nm to full range and zero span. Coherence Time
Average time for the wave train to lose its phase realtionships

Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)
A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is a type of distributed Bragg reflector constructed in a short segment of optical fiber that reflects particular wavelengths of light and transmits all others. This is achieved by adding a periodic variation to the refractive index of the fiber core, which generates a wavelength specific dielectric mirror. A fiber Bragg grating can therefore be used as an inline optical filter to block certain wavelengths, or as a wavelength-specific reflector.

Modulation
Modulation is the process by which the characteristic of one wave (the carrier) is modified by another. Adding information into pulses of light.

Power Linearity
When changing the power level and measuring the differences (in dB) between actual and displayed power levels, the power linearity is ± half the span (in dB) between the maximum and the minimum value of all differences.

Stability
Stability is the extent to which a specified property, characteristic, or parameter of a substance, device, or apparatus, such as a fiber optic transmission system, remains fixed with the passage of time or with varying environmental conditions.
